Cafetière (French Press) Brewing Guide

The French press gives you texture, body, and depth. It’s all about immersion and patience, perfect for a relaxed morning or lazy afternoon.

Equipment

  • French Press

  • Grinder

  • Kettle

  • Scales

  • Timer

Recipe

  • Coffee: 15 g (coarse grind – like breadcrumbs)

  • Water: 250 g

  • Brew time: 6:00

  • Water temp: 93–96°C

Steps

  1. Preheat the French press and discard the rinse water.

  2. Add 15 g of ground coffee.

  3. Pour 250 g of water in a circular motion.

  4. Stir gently 3 times and place the lid on top (don’t plunge).

  5. At 3:00, remove the lid and stir again. Skim off the top layer of foam.

  6. Replace the lid and let it brew until 6:00.

  7. Gently plunge and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Always decant the entire brew, leaving it in the press will over-extract.

  • Want it stronger? Let it sit a little longer before plunging.
