Chemex Brewing Guide

Elegant and smooth, Chemex brewing celebrates clarity and floral nuance. Its thick filter highlights lighter roasts with grace and finesse, ideal for long, easy sipping.

Equipment

  • Chemex (6 or 8 cup)

  • Chemex filter

  • Grinder

  • Kettle

  • Scales

  • Timer

Recipe

  • Coffee: 30 g (coarse grind – like granulated sugar)

  • Water: 500 g

  • Ratio: 1:16.6

  • Brew time: 4:00–4:30

  • Water temp: 93–96°C

Steps

  1. Prep and heat water to ~97°C.

  2. Fold and insert the filter, thick side over the spout.

  3. Rinse the filter thoroughly and discard the rinse water.

  4. Add 30 g of coffee and level the bed.

  5. Tare your scale and start your timer.

  6. Bloom with 60 g of water. Wait 30 seconds.

  7. At 0:30, pour 250 g more.

  8. At 1:00, pour the final 190 g to reach 500 g.

  9. Gently swirl the Chemex and let it finish dripping by 4:30.

Notes

  • Swirl the finished brew for consistency.

  • Grind finer or coarser to fine-tune flow time.
